A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A KEYWORKER
8.00am
Start work – Office duties - Check emails, text young people to remind them to meet me today. Check folders – who am I meeting today. Deal with bus fares from last week and expenses. Make sign up packs as meeting quite a few young people today – sign up pack includes a leaflet, diary, pencil and my business card.
8.30 – 9.30am
Write up contacts sheets from meeting young people yesterday – go through their folders to see what needs doing for next week.
9.30 – 10.30am
Picking up young people from Connexions to take to the Lazer centre for a course – it’s some people’s first day on the course – reimburse bus fare.
10.30 – 11.30am
Office tasks – catch up with young people’s folders – APIRs, look for jobs and training providers available for young people.
11.30am
Travel to Connexions to meeting with appointments.
12.00pm
First young person arrives – they sign up to the Activity Agreement – he wants to be a car mechanic.
12.30pm
Meet young person to see how they are getting on – she wants to get a retail job instead of working in childcare. – Help young person change CV to get a retail job.
1pm Lunch
1.30pm
Received text message from young person meeting at 2.30pm to rearrange and also received a message from the young person meeting at 2pm to say she is bringing a friend who wants to sign up as well.
2.00pm
Signed up 2 young people both have been for an interview for a cleaning job within a school – waiting for CRB check to come back. Discussed the Lazer centre course and other options.
3.00pm
My 3pm appointment has not arrived but my 3.30pm has – signed up young person who wants to be a firefighter – we discussed college and other options.
3.30pm
Rang the young person who was supposed to meet at 3pm but no answer. Young person has missed three appointments now – Completed paperwork to end this young person.
3.45pm
Travel back on bus to office to collect car.
4pm
End of the day.
